Shape and tack-nail the top band for the box lid as described above, but use the drying box band as a bending form and shape-holder as it dries (left). The fingers for the top and the box should line up evenly. Allow two days for the bands to dry. To complete the box, cut a lid and bottom from quartersawn stock to fit inside the bands, beveling the edges at 5° to provide a tight fit like a cork in a bottle. Then drill Ms-inch pilot holes and use toothpicks as pegs to secure the pieces. The boxes can be finished with milk paint or a clear lacquer.
