You buy water putty in powder form and mix it with water to a creamy consistency. The mixture hardens quickly with very little shrinkage. There are dry powdered colors you can add to it, to match the wood being repaired. It, too, has no grain appearance and will show when used to repair prominently grained wood.
One excellent use for this product is as a filler after you have repaired fractured wood. Apply the putty to the edges of the crack and use it to replace any missing wood shreds. You can rebuild the broken part to its original shape and, after refin-ishing. you probably won't be able to sec the fracture.
