There once was a time when one could use turpentine to thin just about any coating material but this is not so with today's formulations. You might ruin the mixture by thinning it, or you might thin with something that isn't compatible with the formulation. Read the label. If it tells you to use the varnish straight from the can, do so. If the label provides the name of a thinner to use, follow the directions for such thinning. If no thinner is suggested, be safe and don't attempt to thin the mixture.
