Step Scraping the Residue

Allow the chemical to stand until the finish bubbles and wrinkles, or until it is soft, fhis will probably be 10 to 20 minutes. Some finishes, such as varnishes and ex-poxies. don't bubble. They just get soft. Test these with your scraper after about 5 minutes, and begin scraping them as soon as they have softened. Don't wait until the surface has dried. Scrape paints and enamels after they have wrinkled.

In some cases, especially old and very thick coats of enamel, you may have to repeat the process several times before getting down to bare wood.
