Small Blemishes

If you have repaired a cigarette bum on a table top, the last step in the repair process is to refinish the surface. If the finish is either lacquer or shellac, you can reamal-gamate instead of applying a new coat of finish material to the repaired area. The advantage of reamalgamation is that you don't need to worry about color matching the old finish, because in this process, you literally "melt" the old finish on the surface adjacent to the repair, and cause it to fiow over the repair.
