Avoiding Moisture Problems

Moisture frequently causes drawer problems, but only when the moisture can get into the wood. Because drawers are hidden, they often aren't finished at all. Unfortunately, in a humid climate bare wood can act like a sponge. The moral of the story is: always finish drawers, inside and out, to reduce their ability to absorb moisture As a matter of fact, don't save this advice for furniture restoration alone. Look at the drawers in all of your furniture, and apply a coat or two of lacqttcr or shellac to prevent binding, swelling and sticking.
