Building the Sides

To build the side sections, follow the same procedure that you used for the front and back. The only difference is that the sides are narrower.

  1. Cut four vertical pieces (A) from 1x6 treated lumber, each 14 inches long.
  2. Cut four side support pieces (C) from 2x4 treated lumber, each 7 inches long.
  3. Place two vertical pieces (A) side by side on a level surface. Center one support piece (C) over the width of the two boards and position it flush with the ends of the vertical pieces (A). Note that the vertical pieces (A) extend 1-1/2 inches on each end of the side supports (C). Place a second support piece (C) 1 inch from the

opposite ends of the vertical pieces (A). Again, center it over the width of the two boards. (Refer to Figure 1.)

  1. Attach both support pieces (C) to the two vertical pieces (A) using exterior glue and 3-1/2-inch-long galvanized screws. Use at least two screws on each of the vertical pieces (A).
  2. Repeat Steps 3 and 4. You have now constructed both of the side sections.
