Fitting Methods

A base-run drawer is the traditional fitting method. The drawer slides into and out of the carcass on the bottom edge of the drawer sides, and the tops of the drawer sides run against the upper rails when in the open position, preventing it from tipping forward.

Side-hung drawers are supported by two rails screwed to the inside of the carcass, which run in slots or grooves cut in the sides of the drawer. A carcass made for side-hung drawers does not require cross rails in the carcass between drawers that are stacked one above the other.
