Adhesives

All the projects in this book were made using white polyvinyl acetate (PVA) wood glue, which is relatively cheap and easy to use. Applied to a joint, it will hold after 20 minutes and be rock solid within 24 hours. It has a long shelf life, and will not stain the wood if a damp rag is used to wipe off the surplus before it dries. When completely dry, the glue join can be stronger than the surrounding wood.

To use PVA glue effectively, first make sure that the surfaces to be joined are clean. Spread the glue evenly on one of the surfaces, and use plenty so that it squeezes out when clamped.
