Types Of Glue

The perfect glue hardly exists except under laboratory conditions, and most professional users, recognizing the limitations of any one kind of adhesive, match the glue to the work. Generally speaking all adhesives fall within three main categories: (1) animal glues prepared from bones, hides, fish offal, blood, milk, etc.; (2) vegetable glues prepared from dextrine, rye and soya-bean flours, rubber latex, etc.; (3) mineral glues prepared from synthetic resins, coal-tar, crude-oil derivatives, etc. This is a good enough division, although chemists would prefer to divide them into (1) temperature-change glues; (2) solvent-release glues; (3) chemical-change glues, but as this can be confusing to the layman the first-mentioned categories are normally used in everyday parlance.
